Blades caretaker boss John Carver has praised striker Ched Evans, ahead of today’s clash with Hull City.

Evans was the matchwinner in last week’s victory over promotion chasing Swansea City, something that pleased ex Toronto boss Carver.

‘The Swansea game was probably Ched’s best performance for this club and I wasn’t surprised because he has got bags of ability which we see regularly in training.

‘I have told him that I don’t want a training ground footballer and I am confident he can build on that goal in the coming weeks.

‘Both Gary Speed and I have said to him that there comes a time in life where you have to force the issue.

Carver explained the ability possessed by the Welshman, but pulled no punches when admitting he needs better from his frontman, but believes the goal in last week’s game could set him on the right course.

‘After a promising start to his career, which included a loan spell at Norwich, it is fair to say he hasn’t pulled any trees up here yet.

‘On the plus side, he can strike the ball as hard as Alan Shearer, yet his goal against Swansea demonstrated more composure. Two or three weeks ago he would have blazed the ball over the top so hopefully the penny has dropped.’
