Defender Andy Butler and young goalkeeper George Willis have both left Bramall Lane for short loan spells.

Butler has returned to former club Walsall on a one month emergency loan deal that will help the 30 year old get some games under his belt given his limited opportunities at the moment, and young Willis has headed out to join colleague Julian Banton with non league Bradford Park Avenue, also on a one month deal.

Hopefully both players will get what they need from the spells away and for Willis especially, more first team involvement should certainly help his development.

Manager Nigel Clough has also said that although he still intends to strengthen the group of players, he only wants to bring in obvious improvements to what we have, because he feels we already have a good squad of lads, so he won’t be rushing any deals through.

Importantly, he’s also looking closely at deals that can be trialled as loans until January and then potentially made permanent if all works out well.

One name heavily linked is a loan return for defender Harry Maguire and Clough has already informed the press that ‘interest’ has been lodged with Hull City following their signing of him over the summer, and we’ve informed them we would be interested in seeing him return for a period if they decided to let him out.
