Michael Doyle has offered a brutally honest assessment of Sheffield United at the moment by admitting that it’s ‘not been good enough’ of late and the defeat on Saturday was an ‘unacceptable defeat’ at that.

We’ve certainly, and more so since Nigel Clough highlighted how important the 7-10-days or so that were coming up ahead of the Peterborough game, struggled of late haven’t we and the two-one defeat at Bramall Lane against Fleetwood wasn’t good enough was it?

There certainly was, as Olly wrote for us recently, ‘no effort’ (Click Here)!

‘Way too many points being dropped at home’ and this is the reason behind our failure to challenge to top two according to Doyle, which would also be a fair and honest assessment. It is also something we would be expected to be doing this season. Why is this the case? He couldn’t put his finger on it but doesn’t feel that this is in any way down to a ‘lack of confidence’ or ‘feeling pressure’ of playing at home.

The fact that the players were booed off following the Fleetwood defeat was something that he completely understood and couldn’t argue with, he’s ‘taking it on the chin’ and accepting the frustrations from the stands as are his teammates with us all looking to come back better and stronger

Was Fleetwood embarrassing though? He didn’t think so and didn’t want to be disprespectful to them but does feel it was unacceptable with him now seeking us to become more consistent to see out the season our and focus on making sure we stay in the play-offs, which we’re at risk of dropping our of if we don’t push on again! We should be ok though, shouldn’t we!

For all of Doyle’s thoughts listen below and for more like this see AudioBoom.

Doyle isn’t giving up and second place but is, as the old cliché says, taking it ‘a game at a time’, starting with Scunthorpe on Saturday, which he knows – as it often is – will be ‘a difficult game’ with a response wanted first and foremost, will we get it though?
