Sheffield United have confirmed yet more injuries to key players after Saturday’s victory at the Cardiff City stadium.

Going into the game, we already knew John Fleck was a doubt after suffering a heavy whack where he previously had fractured his leg. Paul Heckingbottom confirmed that Oli McBurnie has ankle ligament damage after being seen leaving Bramall Lane in a protective boot after the Rotherham United game.

The in-form forward already has plans to have surgery on a hernia during the world cup break.

During the game in South Wales, left-sided centre-back Jack Robinson was forced off less than 20 minutes into the game with a hamstring injury. The diagnosis is that Robinson will be out for a few weeks, although we are entering the world cup break. For United’s sake, they’ll hope that he will be ready to return in December when the Championship resumes.

On the plus side, Ciaran Clark made his long-awaited return to action when he replaced Robinson at Cardiff City. This was only Clark’s fourth Championship appearance for the Blades due to dealing with a lingering hamstring injury.

As we enter the world cup break at the ideal time for United, more injuries are stacking up, but what the interval allows is time for them to recover. The likes of Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Jayden Bogle will be close to returning by the time the season gets back underway. Sander Berge will also be nearing his return along with fellow midfielders John Fleck and Tommy Doyle.

Anel Ahmedhodzic missed the Cardiff City game due to a bad illness and will have plenty of time to get back to full strength during this world cup break.
