Sheffield United have this evening confirmed that John Brayford has now left Bramall Lane, and that former Motherwell defender Ben Heneghan has arrived.

Beginning with Brayford, it’s long been known that he was available for transfer this summer with him not featuring in Chris Wilder’s plan and he did spend the vast majority of last season out on loan with Burton Albion.

This evening though both the player and the club have come to an agreement to mutually terminate his deal and he leaves having featured once this season in the League Cup victory over Walsall, as a free agent.

The 29 year old made a total of 69 appearances for the club following his arrival from Cardiff City, scoring four times.

As for Heneghan, the centre half comes in for an undisclosed fee from Scottish side Motherwell and he has signed a three year deal at the club.

Speaking to the Official Site Wilder explained about his capture.

‘It is no secret that we’ve been after another centre half and Ben has been on our radar for sometime, we enquired about him last year. He fits our criteria and he is one we are looking forward to working with.’

Heneghan began his career with Everton, spending seven years with the Goodison Park outfit and he moved onto Stoke City in 2012. Whilst he didn’t make a competitive appearance for Stoke, a two year loan with Chester saw him make 81 appearances with six goals returned.

In June 2016 he made the move to Motherwell and he has over 40 appearances to his name in the Scottish top flight.

He’s Wilder’s ninth capture of the summer.
