It’s Tuesday the 26th July which means it’s semi-final night at Bramall Lane, as England face Sweden. The winner of tonight’s tie will face either France or Germany in the final at Wembley on the 31st of July.

This is a monumental day for the city. Let’s hope it’s a monumental day for the Lionesses too. England’s women were rampant in the group stages of the tournament, they won Group A without any trouble, winning all three games and scoring 14 goals.

Last week they faced Group B runners-up Spain in the quarter-finals, at the Brighton Community Stadium. This was the first game where England conceded, and they showed their resilience after coming from behind to eventually win 2-1 in extra time, which propelled them into a semi-final against Sweden.

The Lionesses form against Sweden is poor, so let’s hope they can change that tonight. England and Sweden have faced each other 26 times, but the Lionesses have won just three of those fixtures and beaten 15 times The two sides have met seven times previously in the Euros, but England have triumphed on only one occasion.

It will be an emotional night for all of the players but especially for former Blade and Sheffield United fan Millie Bright. Playing at Bramall Lane in a semi-final for her nation must be a dream come true, and it’ll be a day she’ll never forget if the Lionesses are triumphant.

Let’s hope that the sold out beautiful downtown Bramall Lane can celebrate England advancing to the Euro final, by beating Sweden tonight in their 8PM kick-off.
