Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has praised his side following their 2-0 victory over Bristol City on Saturday.

Blackwell, whose team had previously gone four games without a victory was full of praise for the Blades, who overcame a poor Bristol City side.

‘I thought we were excellent today and really took the game to them. At half-time I asked the lads to try and be more purposeful in the final third of the pitch because we had had a lot of possession around the edge of their area without really penetrating.

Blackwell’s words at half-time, as the Blades put in a second-half display, which has been previously unseen at Bramall Lane this season, with Henri Camara and Darius Henderson getting the goals that gave United all three points.

‘We started the second-half well and kept going and it was the best we have played in quite a while. The team looked accomplished and the movement and chances we created were very pleasing.

Many fans believe the reason for the Blades victory was down to the shape of the team, with Mark Yeates and Jame Ward playing on either wing to support the frontmen, and give Lee Williamson in mdifield, an option on the ball.

‘We had the players who can play with the ball all wanted to be on the ball this afternoon. Players like Yeates are comfortable with the ball at his feet, Lee Williamson the same, and Jamie Ward was a bit more like his old self – there was so much more purpose and freedom of expression from us.

However, calls for the same team to be kept on Tuesday, for United’s visit to the City Ground could fall on deaf ears, as more injury worries for the Blades boss means changes could be required yet again.

‘I would love to keep this set of players fit and keep the same team because it showed real potential, but that is not going to happen for Tuesday at Forest because two players from today are injured and already out.’
