Sheffield United have captured their third signing of the summer, fighting off other interest to bag Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton.

Britton, was out of contract in South Wales, and despite offers from other Championship clubs, and Premier League Wigan, managed by his former employer Roberto Martinezm opted to join the Blades.

Speaking of his move to Bramall Lane, Britton said:
‘There was interest from the Premiership and I spoke to a couple of people there but it wasn’t right for me – Sheffield United was.’

‘First and foremost this is a massive club, you only have to look at the average attendance last season. I was here with Swansea for the penultimate one and the special atmosphere from that day is still fresh in my mind.’

Britton is the third new face at Bramall Lane, joining Daniel Bogdanovic and Johannes Ertl who have already signed.

  • Now this is a REALLY good piece of business. Ertl was a solid signing, Boggy could turn out to be very useful, but Britton has long term proven quality. He spent much of last season at Swans doing the ‘Monty’ job but next season he will be able to put his ability to pick a pass for the team to real effect. I’ll bet Evans, Cress, Hendo & Boggy are pleased to see him arrive. Really impressed with the job Blackwell and Birch have done to get him in, signing him up for 3 + 1 yrs shows good forward planning. Now go get SIMONSEN (or Speroni, BFL!)

  • He’s been great for us for the past 7 seasons, and I while mourning at his loss at the Liberty, wish him the best of luck this season with yourselves.

  • Quality signing really surprised he has come to a long ball club, but we r one of the bigest lf not the bigest club in the championship so go players will want to com…..speroni has to be the 1 by a country mile.

  • What a brilliant signing – I am a happy man tonight – here is the bit of class I have been begging for after the excellent Ertl signing – give me Surman and Simonsen and I will be close to orgasmic!

  • Steady on, Harrogate, arent you a bit old for all that excitement! Agree with you, Surman and Simo would be fantastic additions (not sure about orgasmic though) ! The signing of Britton might signal a change of style for United, Blackwell wouldnt sign a 5ft 6 ball playing midfielder if the plan was to play long ball……would he?

  • Quality player, great addition. The third player who has cost nowt in transfer fees. Surman would cost and so will Simonsen hope we can afford both.

  • Where u heard the spurr rumour from Florida? Agree surman wud be a good signing. What about de vries at swansa too solve the keeper situation?…..Alex smithies at huddetsfield wud also be a good signing 4 us.

  • This might sound silly bfl, but Smithies is on a ridiculous wage! Town absolutely love him, they gave him a massive contract on extortionate money, and want a big fee for him. I don’t think we can afford him, as daft as it sounds considering he’s a young League 1 player. Not heard about Spurr, Wednesday have just signed another left-back which could mean Spurr’s on his way, but from what I hear, plan is to play this Jones on the wing, so he might not be going anywhere just yet. Surman would be a gem, and with the names linked, I suppose Simmo is about the best option in goal.

  • Now that is a good signing, lets hope we can play to his strengths and not make him look like a fish out of water.

  • BFL…As you well know I am always very dubious about most of the so called ‘inside information’ from fans and the media, the vast majority of which is rumour & speculation, however I do have one contact whos information recently has been spot on – he told me about Naysmith two weeks before it happened and was right about the club and the contract – so either it was just pure luck or he IS getting info. He e mailed to say that Tommy Spurr was being considered, whatever that means. He also said that United had spoken to Grant McCann. Another contact told me about Paddy being 99% certain to go to QPR well before he went, but I didnt believe that one….WRONG!

  • just heard bout williamson big big blow for us hope he recovers well and can confirm are we getting a new shirt for nxt season or not
