Blades v Hull: Preview

Image for Blades v Hull: Preview

This one promises to be an absolute cracker. Hull, backed by 4,200 fans, will be desperate for 3 points to push them a step closer to the Premiership. Our own promotion dreams are a little more far-fetched but the fact that we still have a sniff combined with a desire to pop a local(ish) rivals balloon should mean we’re well up for this one.

Inevitable parallels will be drawn with the 2006 fixture between the 2 clubs when Unsworth’s last minute winner ended (to all intents and purposes) 12 years of hurt for Blades fans. It’s a shame that the roles are now reversed but at least we’re enjoying our football again and feeling optimistic that we will be in Hull’s position this time next year.

Vital Quotes:

James Beattie had the following to say about the Blades and Hull chances in an interview with the club’s official site ‘We can only go out and win our matches and until it is mathematically impossible we must believe that things will go our way. Looking at where Hull are doesn’t really surprise me, because this division is so difficult to predict and it isn’t one where you could win a lot of money if you were a betting man. Hull have performed well all season and their league position doesn’t lie. They have been consistent throughout the campaign and are where they are on merit.’

Sheffield United Team News:

Lee Martin returns to the squad after a long absence through injury. Blackwell has spoke highly of his desire to return to our team rather than go back to Manchester United. I’m not a fan personally, what do others think of him?

Player to watch: James Beattie

In great form at the moment and in with every chance of taking the Golden Boot for the section.

Will this be his penultimate game at Bramall Lane I wonder? He says not, let’s hope his head isn’t turned over the summer by a move back to the Premier League.

Hull City Team News:

Richard Garcia and Henrik Pedersen both look likely to miss out through injury.

Player to watch: Fraizer Campbell

Perhaps the best example of what a Manchester United loanee can do for you. A shame Captain marvel couldn’t find one of similar quality.

Match Facts & Stats

The Blades are unbeaten in 11 home league games against the Tigers.

Hull’s last league win at Bramall Lane came in an ill-tempered clash in March 1971.

Match Prediction:

I fancy goals in this one, the Blades to win it 3-2.

Next Fixtures:

April 26th Bristol City (h)
