Blades to join race for Earnshaw?

BBC Sport is reporting that Sheffield United could be about to hijack the £2.5 million move taking Rob Earnshaw to Nottingham Forest.

Paul Jewell has told the former Cardiff striker that he is surplus to requirements at Pride Park less than a year after signing for the club.

Earnshaw has reportedly held talks with Nottingham Forest but rumours are rife that United could be about to ruin the move and tempt the player to Bramall Lane instead.

With a whole host of attacking options already available at Bramall Lane, this would mean the exit for at least two strikers during the summer.

My guess would be Shelton and Stead. Shelton’s iconsistency has meant he’s been unable to hold down a first team place & Jon Stead despite his excellent end to 07/08 has also been unable to break into the team.

Earnshaw would then join Hulse, Webber, Sharp and James Beattie. However, would the signing of Earnshaw mean we were resigned to losing Beattie? They are a different type of player but Earnshaw is still more than capable of goals at Championship level.

***UPDATE***

The Sheffield Star is reporting that Jon Stead could be included as part of the deal. Stead enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Midlands club at the end of 2006 but now it is thought that Stead could make a permanent move to County.

*A quick reminder that the Squad section has been updated. It now includes each players ‘best’ and ‘worst’ moments in a Blades shirt. Feel free to discuss*
