Sheffield United supporters have known for a few weeks now that the club is currently in the process of a financial takeover, and now they finally have some clarification on who this new owner could be.

According to The Times newspaper, Sheffield United’s potential new owner is an African billionaire, with his nationality yet to be determined. After several rumours instigating that the interested party is the Mansour Group from Egypt, those rumours can now be laid to rest after a close friend of Prince Abdullah has confirmed on Twitter that the new owner is NOT Egyptian.

The report from The Times states that a takeover, said to be £90M, is extremely close to being finalised. Currently, the potential new owner has undergone various EFL checks to ensure they are suitable to own a football club, and that they can healthily maintain investing into the club for at least the next couple of seasons. So far, no issues have arisen.

The Blades have been placed under a temporary embargo because of a delayed payment of an installment for Rhian Brewster, due to Prince Abdullah wanting to sell the club, he didn’t want to pay up the remaining payment. Now, the Prince and the potential new owner have come to an agreement on how to pay off that remaining installment which, as a result, will not see Sheffield United placed under an embargo over the next two transfer windows.

I wonder if the Prince would today pass the EFL’s test for a fit and proper owner? He clearly (in spite of parachute payments and a frugal manager) does not have the finances to operate in the Championship, let alone the PL.

Why so hush hush about the name of the buyer
