Sheffield United will begin the season with a trip to beaten play-off finalists Cardiff City.

The Blades managed a 1-1 draw on their first visit to the Cardiff City stadium last season with Stephen Quinn equalising after a stunning Jay Boothroyd strike for the Bluebirds.

Leon Britton’s return to Swansea City will be delayed as long as possible with United finishing the season at the Liberty Stadium.

Meanwhile Paddy Kenny and Neil Warnock will return to Bramall Lane in United’s first home game of the season, on August 14th. It’s a repeat of two years ago, when Billy Sharp’s hat-trick gave the Blades a 3-0 victory.

  • I remember the good old days when if you played the first game away you played the last game at home, how many years on the trot have we been away for both?

  • Me too Mick, but at least we get a home game on Boxing day, havent had one of those for a while.

  • Before we grumble too much, Oinkers have a mouth watering opening day home game against Dagenham & Roadbridge, and their traditional last day fight to avoid relegation against the mighty Exeter City!!

  • I think that we start off the season with a tugh couple of games but we can win them we havent lost to cardiff away in years in fact won a couple of times 2 and qpr at home the crowd will get the lads through so good start and things are looking up

  • I am really looking forward to welcoming Paddy back to BDTBL, I’ll bet the kop will have a special message for him as well.

  • Cant believe the absolute garbage I have just watched, some of those England players are earning £7m a year.

  • wendy at home yet again for the opening game and the finl game of the season? what’s all that about?thats 3 years on the bounce now!!

  • Yes. no doubt a sell out game at swillsboro against the giants of Exeter City to avoid relegation to division 4. HAPPY DAYS!

  • You should have been there like me glouc – an absolute disgrace….spent a fortune going out there and got a perfromance like that – wednesday wants to be better! It was like watching utd at wembley last year – just a longer more expensive trip!

  • How long were you out there, Gleadless? Get to see much of the country? How was security?

  • came back tuesday, went out for two weeks so got most of build up and and plenty of games….too big to see country im afraid as did flights around as takes too long to drive about but based mainly in joburg as easy to get to games from there and few days in cape town which was quality…got 5 games in including opening game and englands first two…security was fine, load of media hype – just stay out of certain places which is same in any city

  • Gleadless – What about doing an article on your trip to SA World Cup? I know many of us would be interested in your take on the whole event / country / travel etc. Wouldnt need to be War & Peace, just a few paragraphs. If you are ok with this, click on the “Suggest an article” button at the top of this page and you will be able to write up your report, which will then go through to Sheps.
