It’s being reported this week that contract talks between Sheffield United and David McGoldrick are now at an advanced and final stage, and the forward is expected to sign new extended terms before the end of the week.

The speculative report comes from the Mirror but fans have long known that manager Chris Wilder wanted to tie the 31-year-old down for a longer period of time given his form for us and the fact he becomes a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

McGoldrick has certainly made an impact since arriving as a free transfer from Ipswich Town last summer and with ten goals so far in 23 starts and five substitute appearances, it was always likely we would extend his initial 12 month deal.

The Mirror claim other clubs are sniffing around the player, but if talks are that advanced you would expect the ink to soon be dry on a new contract and then that’s one potential worry that can be taken off the table.
