Sheffield United make their first visit to the ‘Cardiff City Stadium’ on Wednesday as they look to close the gap on the play-offs.

United, who currently sit five points behind tomorrow’s hosts, know that avoiding defeat is vital, but it’s Cardiff’s Stephen McPhail who has spoken of the importance of this fixture to the Bluebirds.

“I feel the Sheffield United game is the biggest of the season for us. We can really stretch our lead to eight points and that is a large gap to make up for the chasing pack.

The Blades will carry a unique advantage into the game, as the home side have to drastically change their playing style to accomodate the pitch conditions, a style which United have adopted for much of the season.

McPhail added: “At home we have to play differently and adapt to the conditions.

“We had to hit Jay (Bothroyd) a bit more on Sunday and try and support him as quickly as we could.

“At times you get in a position where things are getting tight, but we tend to play the ball in the air more these days because of the state of the pitch.”

United have no new injury worried to contend with for the fixture, but Chris Morgan is available again after suspension, and is likely to replace Marcel Seip.

It’s not known yet whether Henri Camara will be fit, after being withdrawn on Saturday, and Blackwell has today stated that he’s in the market for a replacement.

Blades winger Glen Little, who featured for forty-five minutes at Doncaster on Saturday, believes it’s vital United don’t drop points if they want to claim that all important sixth position, and this game is one that could be significant come the end of the season.

‘When you’re chasing the play-offs you want to win games, a point away from home is good, but we want to be winning games.’

Possible Line-up
Simonson, Connolly, Morgan, Nosworthy, Stewart, Yeates, Montgomery, Harper, Quinn, Camara, Cresswell.
