Sheffield United will be looking to make their own history at the Etihad Stadium when they travel to Manchester City this weekend.

The Blades have played three times at the Etihad Stadium and have yet to score a goal. The last time a Sheffield United player scored at City was Brian Gayle on 26th October 1991 in a 3-2 defeat at Maine Road. This also means that United has yet to taste victory at Manchester City. The last time they were victorious at the Citizens came on 10th October 1987 – 36 years ago, when United prevailed 3-2 winners.

Chris Wilder’s Blades will face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, 30th December 2023, kicking off at 3:00 PM in the two clubs’ last action of 2023.

However, the Blades chief will be without three key players ahead of the S2 club’s short trip over the Pennines. They will be without on-loan Manchester City starlet, James McAtee, who is unable to play against his parent club, whilst defender Jayden Bogle and midfielder Gustavo Hamer after the pair picked up their fifth booking of the season in the 3-2 loss to Luton Town on Boxing Day and will both serve a one-match suspension. However, they are boosted by the potential return of midfielder Tom Davies, who joined from Everton in the summer.

City were victorious when the two sides met earlier in the season. The Blades came close to earning a point after Jayden Bogle’s goal five minutes from time cancelled out Erling Haarland’s opener on 63 minutes, but, a defensive error allowed Rodri to net a stoppage-time winner as they walked away with a 2-1 victory.
