The Senegalese star, Iliman Ndiaye netted the first goal of the season for Sheffield United against Millwall on Saturday. That neat finish under the Millwall keeper meant that Ndiaye has found the net 5 times in his last 7 Championship appearances.
Former Sheffield United legendary striker Brian Deane talked about how it is hugely important for a striker to get that 1st goal of the season as quickly as possible.
Deane said:
“Absolutely. I’ve talked about this on numerous occasions where the quicker you can score at the beginning of the season, the more you can relax and think about the next opportunity without thinking that you’re under any pressure.” [SUTV]
Ndiaye’s strike partner Rhian Brewster didn’t score against Millwall, but he had a very good performance on Saturday, on the ball and off the ball. Brewster isn’t 100% fit yet but with his effectiveness, it’s hard to not play him. Brewster was able to win his side a penalty when the Blades were 2-0 up. 4 of Sheffield United’s last 5 red cards against or penalties have been for fouls on Brewster.
Brain Deane talked about the penalty and why he felt that Brewster should’ve been given the chance to take it:
“For me I would’ve loved to have seen Rhian Brewster take the penalty and get on the scoresheet as well, because he worked it himself and did fantastically well, and it’s just getting rid of that little bit of pressure.” [SUTV]

“I know from my point of view, he’ll be sat at home thinking I should’ve taken that because that would’ve been my opportunity. He’s seen Iliman score and he’s thinking he’s the leading scorer now, and that’s how forwards think.” [SUTV]
