Sheffield United have been boosted by the news that Sunderland defender has rejected Premier League strugglers Portsmouth, to join the Blades.

Nosworthy, who has played ten league games this season, has dropped down the pecking order with the arrival of Matt Kilgallon, and the possible acquisition of Habib Beye and/or Alan Hutton.

Despite interest from Pompey, Wolves and West Brom are also reported to be interested, but it appears that Nosworthy has chosen Bramall Lane to spend the rest of the season as United look to consolidate a place in the top 6.

Kevin Blackwell spoke over the weekend of his frustration at seeing targets lost.

‘We were pipped for two players on Thursday and another – a left-back from Africa who had been training with us for a week – failed a medical earlier today.

Whilst the deal is not yet confirmed, it’s thought it will be cleared before the 5p.m. deadline.
