Sheffield United went down to their first league defeat of the season with a 3-1 defeat at Brentford.

David Weir made two changes to the side that beat Notts County in their opening league win. Conor Coady came in for Kevin McDonald, who is still mulling over a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Lyle Taylor replaced Chris Porter in attack.

Brentford started brightly, Clayton Donaldson twice going close early on for the hosts.

The hosts went ahead with ten minutes of the half remaining. Adam Forshaw curling his shot past George Long in the United goal with the defence backing off.

Taylor had United`s best chance of the half but his shot just before half time failed to trouble the home goalkeeper.

Brentford almost doubled their lead early in the second half but Long made a fine save to deny Conor McAleny.

Febain Brandy forced Brentford goalkeeper David Button into his first save but his shot was straight at the keeper.

United equalised twelve minutes into the second half. Neil Collins heading home unmarked at the near post from a corner.

Brentford went ahead for a second time when Stephen McGinn was outmuscled out wide and George Saville teed-up Will Grigg who made no mistake.

The hosts stretched their lead when Forshaw waltzed through the United defence to shoot at Long. The young keeper could only parry his shot at the feet of Grigg, who had the easy task of tapping in from close range.

Grigg had a great chance to complete his hat trick when Brentford were awarded a penalty. Harry Maguire was adjudged to have fouled Grigg, with the Brentford striker going down very easily.

Justice was served when Long made a tremendous save to deny Grigg from the spot.

It ended a disappointing afternoon for United, who were often outmuscled by their physical hosts who looked much more hungry for a result.
