The disastrous start to the season continues for Sheffield United after another disappointing defeat, this time at the hands of Preston North End at Bramall Lane.

United were undone by a solitary goal by Stuart Beavon halfway through the second half as United once again failed to score despite David Weir being able to welcome back Febian Brandy as well as new signings Marlon King and Ryan Hall into the side.

The only goal of the game typified the way the season has started for United. A mistake by Matt Hill in defence allowed Kevin Davies to set up Beavon and he had time to twist and turn before despatching his effort into the net.

United were the slightly better side but a lack of goals this season was clear to see as they lacked in the final third. Defender Tony McMahon looked most likely to break the deadlock with two efforts.

Debutant Hall had a shot deflected wide and both Hill and Brandy saw efforts from distance rise over the goal in the first half.

Brandy again saw an effort go wide early in the second half and Neil Collins headed wide from a corner.

The blades desperately searched for an equaliser in the final ten minutes with Collins and Jose Baxter both going close but it was to come to nothing as they suffered a fifth straight defeat that sees them remain in the relegation zone in League One.
