The timer function on Vital Sheffield United counted against me last night as my article covering the incoming speculation about Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan and the Wigan Athletic bound Leon Clarke actually went out after the Blades had confirmed Clarke’s loan departure.
Such is life.
That brace 👀

I did think we’d confirm manager Chris Wilder’s long chase for 26-year-old Hogan before we inked the 33-year-old’s departure to the DW Stadium, but apparently not.
With 63 starting appearances to his name and a further 28 substitute showings, Clarke has returned 31 goals for the club and with 26 appearances to his name, on face value the departure sounds strange until you factor in he’s only scored three times as we fight for Championship promotion this year.
He headed out last night with immediate effect but I don’t believe there is a buy clause on the deal, so his future at Bramall Lane may still hinge on whatever the reported deal is we have struck with Villa for the Republic of Ireland international.
