Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell said it was as though Kenny has ‘never been away’ following his return to the team in today’s Championship victory over Swansea City.

Kenny, who was handed a nine month ban at the start of the season played his first game since the play-off final defeat to Burnley in May, and after a string of fine saves, the Blades boss was quick to heap praise on him.

‘He looked very assured and his handling was crisp and clean.

‘You could say, ‘what could have been’ when you have seen what he’s done. There was a solidity about the back five.

‘I felt that if he made an error the fans would accept it, but he looked as if he hadn’t been away.

‘It was a worldwide ban, he couldn’t train anywhere. We helped him hire a personal trainer and a goalkeeping coach and he has been training in a field somewhere.

Kenny will play the final game of the season at Ipswich Town next week, bringing a close to a dreadful 2010 campaign for him.
