Sheffield United slipped further into relegation trouble after going down to a 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Gillingham at Bramall Lane.

The blades had already had an early scare when Neil Collins cleared off the line but the respite was only short lived. Inform striker Danny Kedwell gave the visitors the lead when he pounced on a mix-up between Harry Maguire and George Long.

United came back strongly, both Chris Porter and Maguire going close to equalising. The blades eventually equalised when Porter made it two goals in two games when he headed home a free-kick by Simon Lappin.

Gillingham went ahead for a second time early in the second half when substitute Cody McDonald scored from close range after Long had denied John Mousinho.

The blades tried in vain to break down a stubborn Gillingham rear-guard with Porter and Shaun Miller having the best opportunities for the blades but the visitors held out for a crucial away win that lifted them four points clear of the relegation places with the blades remain second bottom.
