Sheffield United and Brentford battled out a goalless draw at Bramall Lane as the blades slim play-off hopes took another knock.

The game will probably be best remembered for a controversial moment in the first half. Referee Eddie Ilderton awarded Brentford a penalty after Kieron Freeman was adjudged to have fouled Marcello Trotta in the penalty area. After awarding the penalty, Ilderton was quick to show Freeman a straight red card. Ilderton was forced to change his decision after consulting with his assistant.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the game with Trotta somehow failing to hit the target from close range whilst blades goalkeeper Mark Howard made a good save to deny Jonathan Douglas.

United searched for a winner late in the game and Chris Porter and Ryan Flynn both went close but they had to settle for a point that leaves them six points behind the final play-off place having now played a game more.
