Sheffield United are, as has been well documented, in the market for a striker before the emergency loan window closes next week.

Our latest attempts to bring in a player from Championship level, as they had with Steven Davies of Blackpool recently, have failed….

Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce revealed that his former Forest and England international teammate Nigel Clough had approached him about taking Dexter Blackstock on loan but the striker didn’t fancy the move.

Pearce told BBC Radio Nottingham: ‘He had an option to go but didn’t feel it was right. If something does come up then it might be the way forward.’

The 28-year-old striker, injured during a loan spell with Leeds United last season that caused him to miss most of that campaign with a knee injury, has been limited to just one first-team appearance.

Blackstock is thought to be in Pearce’s long-term plans but he is keen to send him out on loan, the striker isn’t keen on dropping into league 1 though it appears!
