The Blades managed to snatch a point at Blackpool on Tuesday night after a late howler from Blackpool keeper, Paul Rachubka, gifted them a point.

United had started the game brightly and took the lead after 13 minutes when Stead’s superb cross found BEATTIE and the striker headed home.

The blustery conditions made life hard for both sides throughout the first half, as chances went begging.

However, Blackpool pulled themselves level right on half time. A CRAINEY free kick managed to loop over the wall and beat Kenny on his near stick to the delight of the home fans.

The Blades may have had the better of the first half but the second belonged to the home side.

Blackpool controlled the majority of the play as a lacklustre United side, not for the first time this season, struggled to create any kind of flowing football.

Blackpool deservedly went in front in the final minutes of the game as Welsh’s cross was met by BURGESS and the striker sent his header passed Kenny and into the corner of the net.

It seemed the Blades were set to face yet another away defeat before a huge slice of fortune finally gave the travelling supporters something to cheer.

As the clock ticked towards the 90th minute BEATTIE tried his luck from all of 30 yards and to his, and the crowds amazement, the ball went through Rachubka’s hands before trickling into the net.

The final whistle signalled the Blades’ first away point of the season but the disappointment at another lacklustre display could not be masked.
