Bids for Berge “nowhere near” valuation

Sheffield United’s key player Sander Berge is in the headlines again after recent interest from Premier League clubs including Leeds United and Newcastle United.
The 24 year-old midfielder is seen as a vital part of United’s squad. Paul Heckingbottom has said on previous occasions that Berge will be a significant player this season in United’s bid to gain promotion back to the Premier League, at the second time of asking.
The big Norwegian has a £35M release clause in his contract. So far United have received a few offers from clubs attempting to acquire Berge’s services, but they have all fallen short of the Blades asking price.
As Heckingbottom confirmed in todays press conference:
“We have had bids for Sander. I have been open with Sander but I would always say no, whatever it was.
“However, the bids that came in for Sander were nowhere near the club’s valuation. Regardless of any release clause or anything, they were nowhere near, so that’s easy for me to say because in my opinion we don’t sell him no matter what.
“I think he’s a fantastic player, I love working with him and I think there is more to come. I think we will be weaker without him, so I want to keep him.
“It is a business, I get that, but even that doesn’t stack up so anything that’s been put forward for Sander has been nowhere near the club’s valuation.” [Yorkshire Live]
