Sheffield United boss Micky Adams has called on the Blades fans to support striker Marcus Bent.

Bent, who was brought into the club until the end of the season, is yet to find the net for United, but the manager believes it’s only a matter of time, if he’s given the right backing.

“Marcus is going to take a bit of time to get going properly again,” he said. “The first thing I asked him when we first spoke was how much football he`d been playing and he admitted that it hadn`t been much.

It`s going to be four or five matches before his sharpness if where we want it to be. But that doesn`t mean he`s not a quality player with the attributes and experience we require does it.”

Bent wasn’t helped at the weekend, when his regular strike partner Ched Evans, with whom he struck up something of an understanding with recently, was ruled out with illness.

Evans was also forced to sit out Wales’ 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Ireland last night, Gary Speed’s first game in charge.
