Chris Basham has said the attitude of the players is incredibly simple as we go into the tail end of Sheffield United’s season – they are determined to finish the job and hopefully secure back to back promotions into the Premier League.
With 15 games remaining, beginning with Queens Park Rangers later this evening, our number 6 explained that sitting in eighth place in the Championship table and only being four points off the promotion places – holding a game in hand on all of those immediately above us in the table – nobody is going to take their foot off the gas now and everyone is determined to not take a back step as they are determined to finish the job.
Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media to preview tonight’s clash at Bramall Lane, the mantra is to continue taking it one game at a time and ensure we give our all in each every game that remains to get us the points needed to book a Play Off spot.
‘We need to take it a game at a time and look to win every game, hopefully we’ll amass enough points in the final 15 matches. It’s an exciting time for the players, the fans and everyone connected to the club, we couldn’t have wished to have been in this position and we’re determined to finish the job.’
Again, our experience of seeing tricky periods through when the pressure was piled on in last season’s League One success stands the players in good stead as they know how to rise to the challenge and cope in those moments, and Basham feels that it is a huge plus in our favour as we hit the run in.
‘We’ve been in these big game situations in League One, we relish the pressure they bring. We’ve loved being in and amongst it this season, but we want to go that extra yard and get into the Premier League.’
He went on to say.
‘I’ve been here for four years and it’s been horrible at times when we’ve been struggling in League One, but the Gaffer brought and enthusiasm and determination into the club and we’ve not looked back. We play the 3-5-2 formation differently but really effectively. We play with the handbrake off and we’ve got players at the top of pitch that create chances and ones that scores goals.’
