Ball In Long’s Court

Chris Wilder’s made it clear this is the case, whilst also making it clear if George Long doesn’t want to commit his future to Sheffield United then he’ll be allowed to leave the club and he’ll bring in someone else that does.

Previously it was thought Long’s commitment to a new deal with United was a mere formality? With him set to return from his holiday former Northampton boss Wilder says he wants a quick answer on what the academy graduate wants to do going forward.

Wilder got straight to the point when talking on the Official Website as he said he wouldn’t ‘hold a gun to any players head’ when it came to contract talks with him quite simply ready to ‘look elsewhere’ if needed.

His exit would be a disappointment with him establishing himself as the no.1 ahead of Mark Howard last season, but if the man who has been involved with England at U21 level isn’t ready to commit Wilder has enough experience, and contact, to bring in another ‘keeper doesn’t he.

Do you think Long will stay?
