The Blades missed a penalty in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Millwall at Bramall Lane. The squads penalty conversion rate isn’t great by any means, and United’s recent penalty shoot-out form is poor. They face fellow Championship club West Brom in the EFL cup on Thursday night at the Hawthorns, and there’s a chance that could go to penalties as well.

Oli Norwood stepped up to take the penalty last Saturday, he fired it into the bottom left corner, but the keeper Bialkowski read it and got a strong hand to divert it away from goal. It was also the same corner that Norwood aimed for versus Nottingham Forest in the play-off semi-final penalty shoot-out.

Norwoods penalty conversion rate in senior football is 63%. The experienced midfielder ranks the 4th best penalty taker in the squad if the minimum number of penalties taken was 2.

The best penalty taker in the squad is Ben Osborn with a 100% conversion rate from the 3 attempts. Sander Berge is ranked 2nd highest with an 80% success rate from 5 taken. Then Billy Sharp closely follows with a 78% conversion rate from 47 penalty attempts. Everybody else is below 60%.

United have a terrible recent form in shoot-outs, losing their last 6 across the past 5 or 6 years. In fact, you have to go back to the 1st of September 2015 to see United’s last penalty shoot-out victory, Jay McEveley scoring the winning penalty.
