Not so much a detour, but a complete and total roadblock.

That appears to be the message that former Manchester United player Peter Schmeichel sent to Dean Henderson when discussing the goalkeeper situation at Old Trafford.

Henderson’s future, or lack thereof with Manchester United will be largely dictated by what happens with the club’s current number one David De Gea.

Speaking to MUTV, Schmeichel backs the Spaniard to stay with the Red Devils for a very long time to come:

“David is our No.1. He’s still a young lad, by the way. He could play on for another 10 years. Let’s back him. We should support what we have, because we know what we have is really good.”

Henderson has made it clear on numerous occasions that he is not willing to go back to Manchester United or sign a new deal with the club unless he is going to get the number one spot, and if these comments are anything to go by, then he’d be waiting an awfully long time for that to come around.

And with that being said, it’s looking very hard to justify Manchester United wanting to keep Henderson back on the bench or to keep letting him go out on loan like he has been doing for the past few years.

The longer that De Gea looks to stay at Manchester United, the less likely it is that Henderson is going to stay, which is why it’s been discussed about the possibility of the Blades buying Henderson outright to put an end to the matter once and for all.

What about you? What do you make of Schmeichel’s comments regarding Henderson’s future?
