Sheffield United will be boosted by the return of key defender Anel Ahmedhodzic ahead of their clash against top-of-the-table Burnley this weekend.

The Bosnian international defender served a one-match suspension in the Blades’ 1-0 victory at Bristol City last Tuesday night after picking up five bookings through the season and is expected to return to the starting lineup against the league leaders.

The last time that these two sides faced each other was in the Blades’ final Premier League match of the 2020/21 campaign, on 23rd May. Relegation had already been confirmed, and a limited number of supporters were permitted into football stadiums for the first time in fourteen months due to government restrictions following the Coronavirus outbreak – hence the low 5,096 attendance. Despite an unsavoury end to the season, United finished off a poor campaign with a 1-0 victory over Burnley, following David McGoldrick’s goal on 24 minutes.

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom will be without left-wing-back, Rhys Norrington-Davies, who is expected to be side-lined through a hamstring injury and is expected to be absent until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. However, the fit again Enda Stevens may return following his recovery from injury.

They are also without defenders Ciaran Clark (muscle), Jack O’Connell (knee), and Max Lowe (hamstring), as well as midfielder Sander Berge (knee), and forward Daniel Jebbison (ligament injury).
