Sheffield United today signed their second player, with former Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Johannes Ertl joining on a free transfer.

The former Sturm Graz and Austria Wien player, has eight caps for Austria, and will provide versatility player for United.

Manager Kevin Blackwell said:
‘He’s a good lad who can do a very solid job at right-back, central midfield and even centre-half.

‘He has played enough times in the Championship for me to know he can come in and do it for us here.’

The signing is unlikely to get bums on seats, but will provide United with a depth that was missing in the last campaign. Having a player like this will stop the need for so many loan signings, so before it’s condemned so soon, it’s only fair to give the player a chance.
