The past is the past, draw a line under the whole thing.

That was pretty much Chris Wilder’s attitude when it comes to the goal that never was against Aston Villa on Wednesday night. The Blades were robbed of a clear goal when the technology used to help the officials in situations such as that seemed to no be working, leading to outrage across the footballing world.

But speaking ahead of the Blades’ game with Newcastle United, Wilder was keen to draw a line under the whole incident and move on with the rest of the season, starting with the game at St James’ Park:

“We can’t dwell on it and we won’t. Yes, the boys were hugely disappointed by what happened, as we all were. But one thing they’ve shown themselves to be really good at is bouncing back from disappointment. “All our energy is now on Newcastle. All of it.”

Whilst I think that is probably the right attitude to take now, I wonder if he’s going to be saying the same thing later in the season if we end up missing out on either a Champions League spot or Europe altogether by the two points that were, let’s be honest, stolen from us at Villa Park.

Who should take the blame for what happened?

The tecnhology

The officials

The officials

Things are pretty tight as they stand and those two points really could be the thing that decides where we end up at the end of the season. So let’s just hope that something like this does ‘even itself out’ by the time the final whistle blows after the final set of matches.

Otherwise there could be hell to pay with those in charge.

What about you? Are you ready to let this thing go as we carry on through the season? Or is it something that you’re going to hold a grudge against?
