Manager Nigel Adkins has said he’s expecting a response from Bury in tonight’s game at Gigg Lane.

In quotes carried by the Yorkshire Post from his pre game press conference, Adkins said that whilst Sheffield United go into the game in good spirits following the weekend’s victory over Doncaster Rovers and drawing a line under the Wigan defeat, Bury themselves will be the proverbial ‘wounded Tiger’ following their heavy six nil defeat to Coventry City at the weekend as well, and he knew his opposite number David Flitcroft would have them up to give a reaction this time of asking.

‘There will be a reaction from Bury. It will be a very competitive game and we know that and have got to be ready for that. I have listened to the manager`s comments and he will be looking for a big response. But we have got to concentrate on ourselves and go into the game on the back of a good away win and clean sheet.’

With the victory at the Keepmoat seeing good and solid performances from teenage trio Che Adams, Louis Reed and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, all three came in for praise from the gaffer again.

‘It was a good start from him (Adams) and he had his start to the season and then came out again. We talk about a lot of things that go off behind the scenes that young men are surrounded with in modern-day football and life. But I`d like to think we have got a good culture and strive to keep improving all the way through the football club to give the opportunity to young players to go and flourish. The players we have got have potential and we have got to extract that out of them and maximise that as much as possible. They have a great chance if they are on the pitch playing. But if we can get the right habits out of them in training every day, that can only improve them as well.’

Going back to the game itself, he went on to say.

‘First things first, we have got to be ready to compete. To impose ourselves on what is happening and you do that through strength, character, togetherness and desire. Those are qualities we are going to have to show here. We`ve shown them in the past and we`ve got to show them again.’
