Adkins Disappointed With Coventry Loss

Manager Nigel Adkins was left frustrated and disappointed on two counts in the weekend’s loss to Coventry City.

Not only did Sheffield United pretty comprehensively lose the game three one, but it also ended any outside hopes of a Play Off run for this season – which had of course been the aim since last summer.

As has often been the case this year though, United could only really blame themselves for how the Play Off hopes slipped away – and the Coventry match itself.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, a disappointed manager explained.

‘We started poorly and a deflected goal in the first couple of minutes gave them the advantage and then we were two down. After that we responded well, showed a little creativity but it didn’t seem like it was going to happen. We continued to knock on the door, particularly after Billy’s penalty, but we were then hit by a sucker punch. We needed a victory but didn’t get what we came for, we didn’t create pressure into chances, there were plenty of ‘oohs and ‘aahs’ bit we didn’t get the fortune we needed.’

With one game left of the 2015/16 season now, a Bramall Lane tie against in form and now Play Off contenders themselves, Scunthorpe United, Adkins went on to say that his only focus was on the next match and taking all three points to give the fans something to cheer and then thoughts would turn to next season and hopefully being better prepared for a sustained run at promotion.

‘All I’m interested in at the moment is winning the next game. We have been playing some good football lately and I’d like that to continue.’
