Managerial candidate Micky Adams has played down talk of him joining Sheffield United, after interest in him increased recently.

Adams, who became a front-runner this week, alongside Sean O’Driscoll, caretaker boss John Carver and former frontman Andy Scott has failed to rule himself out, but did deny any approach had been made.

They will have received hundreds of applications and it’s flattering. But until something changes that’s all I can say.’

‘I’m a Sheffield boy, I played for the junior team, my mum, my brother and sister are based in Sheffield, Port Vale are doing great – I’d be disappointed if I wasn’t linked with it.

‘Until my chairman and the board say they have had an approach from Sheffield United, or any other club, I’ll just get on with my job here and I am pleased to be doing it.’
