Aaron Ramsdale has had a quick rise to the top and he is now in contention to play at the 2022 world cup in Qatar with England.

The 24-year-old graduated from Sheffield United’s academy back in 2016, but the Blades sold him to Bournemouth in 2017. A succession of loan moves quickly followed to give Ramsdale that first-team experience, and eventually, he broke into Bournemouth’s team.

In the 2019/2020 season, Ramsdale made the leap from playing twenty times for Wimbledon in League One in the previous campaign to playing thirty-seven times for Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Despite suffering a relegation that season, Ramsdale did perform admirably which left Sheffield United interested in their former youth goalkeeper. The Blades would then make a bid for Ramsdale in excess of £18M, and it was soon accepted by relegated Bournemouth.

Ramsdale played all thirty-eight Premier League games for United in the 20/21 campaign, and again, despite suffering relegation Ramsdale displayed his qualities between the sticks.

Arsenal saw potential in Aaron Ramsdale, even with back-to-back relegations on his CV. The Gunners would then buy the Englishman for £30M + add-ons from the Blades as they couldn’t turn down an offer like that in the Championship.

Since moving to the North London club, Ramsdale has helped Arsenal to a 5th-place finish in the 21/22 season, and he picked up three England caps during that season.

This season, the former Blade sits at the top of the Premier League table with Arsenal and as a result of his performances, he is in England’s world cup squad in Qatar.

In just 6 years Aaron Ramsdale has gone from Sheffield United’s youth team to a genuine chance of being England’s number one at a world cup.
